My first dip into the creative pool was as a dancer. In college, I tried to find something more practical (a/k/a "financially viable"), but still gravitated toward more creative pursuits, concentrating on Radio/TV/Film production and English degrees. Post-college, my dancing dreams continued until age twenty-five. I was living in New York City and looked around my sad little rented 8 x 8 bedroom in a stranger's sixth-floor walk-up apartment in the East Village and began feeling old (for a dancer) and tired (of waiting tables and being broke), and maybe not even good enough. I needed something more.
Enter law. The folks thought it was a crazy leap--and perhaps it was, but I was ready to read and write again, I was ready for a little financial stability, and I hoped it would lead to something interesting. After I began practice, there was just one problem: My work was limited to facts and arguments. But my clients, co-workers, and nearly everyone I met fed my love of rich, dark, twisted and complicated characters and soon I was scratching that creative itch, drafting fiction on the side.
After several years in practice, I took a leap of faith with my first completed manuscript, The Green Line. It was a long and winding road to publication, but every year and every published book has been an adventure!
